Kwame Kilpatrick, locked up, still in hot water!!! :-(, so sad

Improper nightclub eviction ruled
Owners of Rhino have alleged they were shaken down for campaign contributions to Kilpatrick.
Paul Egan / The Detroit News
DETROIT -- The Detroit Downtown Development Authority improperly evicted a Harmonie Park nightclub whose owners have alleged they were shaken down for campaign contributions to former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, a judge has ruled.

Wayne Circuit Judge Isidore B. Torres, in an opinion received Friday by a lawyer for the Rhino nightclub's owners, ruled the agency did not give the owners proper notice before a district judge issued an eviction order June 2.

David Steingold, the Detroit lawyer representing the club owners, said he now plans to sue the agency and other city officials, alleging wrongful eviction.

"We believe, very clearly, that our clients were on a list of people the city didn't want to have to deal with unless they had to," Steingold said Friday.

Bob Rossbach, a spokesman for the agency, said Steingold's allegations are false. The Downtown Development Authority, an arm of the Detroit Economic Growth Corp., which owns the building, has denied wrongdoing and denied the eviction had any connection to alleged requests for campaign contributions from a city building official.

"The DEGC was a landlord that had to evict a consistently delinquent tenant, and nothing more," corporation President and CEO George W. Jackson said in a letter to The Detroit News in November.

The Rhino's owners, who say they withheld rent over disputes about needed repairs, said they never received notice of the eviction and did not learn of the proceedings until June 11, nine days after a default judgment was entered against them.

Torres ruled 36th District Judge Lydia Nance Adams abused her discretion when she failed to set aside the eviction following an emergency appeal.

"The trial court concluded that Rhino had notice of the action, because it learned of the June 2, 2008, judgment on June 11," Torres wrote in a nine-page opinion. "The ... court's finding was clearly erroneous."

The court heard evidence that notice of the eviction proceedings was mailed and delivered to the nightclub, but not that the notice was personally served on an agent of the club, as required by law.

Two Rhino owners testified in November before a federal grand jury investigating alleged City Hall corruption.

Steingold alleged Amru Meah, head of the city of Detroit's building department, requested thousands of dollars of Kilpatrick campaign contributions in 2007 as a way of resolving licensing problems with the city. Richard L. Steinberg, Meah's former attorney, denied wrongdoing by Meah. The eviction occurred months after the club's owners paid more than $6,000 in donations to the Kilpatrick campaign.

Meah does not work for the DECG, a nonprofit corporation that operates in partnership with City Hall.

"The DEGC manages city-owned property, but issues no permits or licenses and writes no tickets," Jackson said in his letter to The News.

"The owners of the Rhino were dead wrong if they thought they could make a campaign contribution to then-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to help their dispute with us," Jackson said. "The only payment that would have mattered would have been a check ... to pay the rent."

Steingold said the former nightclub premises on Randolph remain vacant, but he believes the Downtown Development Authority has a new tenant lined up to move in. He's concerned "the Downtown Development Authority conspired to illegally cancel the lease, having secretly entered into lease arrangements with other people," he said.

Rossbach said there is no new lease for the space, and no tenant was lined up at the time the Rhino was evicted.

The Rhino does not want to reclaim its property, because it has lost too much good will and too many customers, he said. But the owners do want to collect damages, he said.

DAMN KWAME...........WHY?!?!?!

FELIZ NAVIDAD!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

SAY IT AINT SO!! vol.1 - Eartha Kitt dies (R.I.P.)

Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died, a family spokesman said. She was 81.

Andrew Freedman said Kitt, who was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, died Thursday in Connecticut of colon cancer.

Kitt, a self-proclaimed "sex kitten" famous for her catlike purr, was one of America's most versatile performers, winning two Emmys and nabbing a third nomination. She also was nominated for several Tonys and two Grammys.

Her career spanned six decades, from her start as a dancer with the famed Katherine Dunham troupe to cabarets and acting and singing on stage, in movies and on television. She persevered through an unhappy childhood as a mixed-race daughter of the South and made headlines in the 1960s for denouncing the Vietnam War during a visit to the White House.
Through the years, Kitt remained a picture of vitality and attracted fans less than half her age even as she neared 80.

Once dubbed the "most exciting woman in the world" by Orson Welles, she spent much of her life single, though brief romances with the rich and famous peppered her younger years.

In 1996, she was nominated for a Grammy in the category of traditional pop vocal performance for her album "Back in Business." She also had been nominated in the children's recording category for the 1969 record "Folk Tales of the Tribes of Africa."

Kitt also acted in movies, playing the lead female role opposite Nat King Cole in "St. Louis Blues" in 1958 and more recently appearing in "Boomerang" and "Harriet the Spy" in the 1990s.
On television, she was the sexy Catwoman on the popular "Batman" series in 1967-68, replacing Julie Newmar who originated the role. A guest appearance on an episode of "I Spy" brought Kitt an Emmy nomination in 1966.

In an online discussion at Washingtonpost.com in March 2005, shortly after Jamie Foxx and Morgan Freeman won Oscars, she expressed satisfaction that black performers "have more of a chance now than we did then to play larger parts."
But she also said: "I don't carry myself as a black person but as a woman that belongs to everybody. After all, it's the general public that made (me) — not any one particular group. So I don't think of myself as belonging to any particular group and never have."

Kitt was born in North, S.C., and her road to fame was the stuff of storybooks. In her autobiography, she wrote that her mother was black and Cherokee while her father was white, and she was left to live with relatives after her mother's new husband objected to taking in a mixed-race girl.
An aunt eventually brought her to live in New York, where she attended the High School of Performing Arts, later dropping out to take various odd jobs.
By chance, she dropped by an audition for the dance group run by Dunham, a pioneering African-American dancer. In 1946, Kitt was one of the Sans-Souci Singers in Dunham's Broadway production "Bal Negre."

Kitt's travels with the Dunham troupe landed her a gig in a Paris nightclub in the early 1950s. Kitt was spotted by Welles, who cast her in his Paris stage production of "Faust."
That led to a role in "New Faces of 1952," which featured such other stars-to-be as Carol Lawrence, Paul Lynde and, as a writer, Mel Brooks.
While traveling the world as a dancer and singer in the 1950s, Kitt learned to perform in nearly a dozen languages and, over time, added songs in French, Spanish and even Turkish to her repertoire.

"Usku Dara," a song Kitt said was taught to her by the wife of a Turkish admiral, was one of her first hits, though Kitt says her record company feared it too remote for American audiences to appreciate.
Song titles such as "I Want to be Evil" and "Just an Old Fashioned Girl" seem to reflect the paradoxes in Kitt's private life.
Over the years, Kitt had liaisons with wealthy men, including Revlon founder Charles Revson, who showered her with lavish gifts.

In 1960, she married Bill McDonald but divorced him after the birth of their daughter, Kitt.
While on stage, she was daringly sexy and always flirtatious. Offstage, however, Kitt described herself as shy and almost reclusive, remnants of feeling unwanted and unloved as a child. She referred to herself as "that little urchin cotton-picker from the South, Eartha Mae."
For years, Kitt was unsure of her birthplace or birth date. In 1997, a group of students at historically black Benedict College in Columbia, S.C., located her birth certificate, which verified her birth date as Jan. 17, 1927. Kitt had previously celebrated on Jan. 26.
The research into her background also showed Kitt was the daughter of a white man, a poor cotton farmer.

"I'm an orphan. But the public has adopted me and that has been my only family," she told the Post online. "The biggest family in the world is my fans."

rapper COMMON, teams up with telecommunications co., MICROSOFT!!!

Here’s a fashion collab we never saw coming: Rapper Common has partnered with Microsoft to create a clothing line called Softwear.

Microsoft’s soft launch party for Softwear, the company’s new line of graphic tees designed by hip-hop artist Common and “inspired by the 1980s when both Microsoft and hip-hop really came of age.”

The software giant’s foray into fashion is intended to conjure a sense of nostalgic hipness around the brand, while reacting to the “I’m a PC” stereotype made popular by Apple. The shirts (which have hit select stores in the US on Dec 15) incorporate old DOS iconography, geek vernacular, and a retro-futuristic aesthetic into some surprisingly stylish designs.

Softwear’s two lines - Classic and Common’s designs - can be previewed at Microsoft’s Softwear site where viewers can also learn about the impetus and story behind the concept, narrated by Common.

In the words of Common, shirts that make you go, “Man, this is incredible artwork and I want to wear this and I want it to reflect beauty, creativity and humanity…look fly but say something, too. So some of the shirts got messages, some of it bring…all of it got a purpose.”

and what point and time do the good ol' days become the good ol' days???
like when does ALL THIS...........everything we know and love and do right now..........when does it all become "old school", or "old news"...............

i still own a cd player..........now to my peers and people older than me, they dont see tha prollum wit that. but this new younger generation...................i was in my room the other day vibin to some classics (36chambers, 400 degreez, etc.) in my compact disc player (LOL) and in walks my cousin jammin to his selection.......only diff. was, he was on an ipod........so he looks at me and laughs, like "nigga, who still listens to CD players??".

that chit made me think for a minute, like.....damn!!, who does still listen to cd players?? now i personally own an iPod myself, but what is soo old school about a cd player.........?? they still manufacture compact discs, right???? so wuss wrong w/ me wantin to one specific album, instead of searching for it through a slew of other music files??

with that being said..........it kinda helps you see how the world turns and all that........how everything changes, yet with nothing really changing, get it??
back when i was in H.S. (damn dogg, fa real, how old do i sound?!?!), i carried my cd player around like a life-line. and all u heard from my g.parents, and my mom was "take them headphones out ya ear" "do u go anywhere without that thing" "what you gonna do when they stop making cd's, then what you gon' listen to"
now the CD's are MP3's and the 'players' are iPods [CHANGE]
but yet u can still hear the older people lookin at the youngn's wit tha "pods" in dey earz sayin "take them headphones out ya ear" "do u go anywhere without that thing" "what you gonna do when they stop letting you download mp3's, then what you gon' listen to" [not so much of a...CHANGE]

i know for mostly 95% of you who choose to read this are thinkin' WTF r u talkin bout???
but it just never ceases to amaze me how things/time/life works and repeats itself........................THANX FOR READIN', C YA NEXT TIME.......2INDASKY!
